Data: the Fuel of Development, and AI Its Engine

A session with Manar Foundation on how organisations can move from scattered data to evidence-based decisions.

Presented by Yumna Al-Shalak and Rania Shaaban, this session walked participants through the data journey of an organisation working on development.

It covered the main roles in data (data analysis and data science), the stages of an analysis project, and how analytics evolved from descriptive reporting to big data, prediction and generative AI, with an example from aid distribution for each stage.

The second half focused on reality inside organisations: unstructured collection, inconsistent tools and weak data quality. Participants left with a practical sequence: understand the problem, set SMART KPIs, prepare the data, model, evaluate for bias, and share results through dashboards.

What you can't measure, you can't manage.
